Academy
Every individual who joins the Oconee Sheriff’s Office with the goal of becoming a deputy must first complete a six-week Basic Law Enforcement training course at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, SC. This rigorous training covers essential skills, including defensive driving, legal procedures, arrest techniques, and much more. As this challenging program can lead to high dropout rates, we at the Foundation send a care package to each candidate to remind them that we’re cheering them on and supporting their journey!
This is just one phase of their training journey. After successfully completing the academy, they will continue their training with us at the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, where they will learn skills and procedures specific to serving our community in Oconee County.
